[Event Recap] The Forest Guardians Are Not Just a Story—They Are Real Keepers of the Mountains 🌿

2025/07/12

As part of the Roaming Xinyi Cultural Festival, the Earth Film Screening and Talk invited Mr. Luman from the Society of Wilderness to share the forest through the eyes of a ranger—revealing the unseen dedication and mission behind their work. Every journey into the mountains is not only a way of connecting with nature, but also a way of coming closer to those who protect it.

The Forest Guardians face typhoons, wildfires, and illegal logging, yet they choose to stay. They walk paths we may never dare to tread, all for the sake of preserving a single tree, a flowing stream, a patch of greenery.

Documentary clips shown at the screening took the audience to the frontlines: guardians moving against the blaze during forest fires, patrolling collapsed trails, and exposing the harsh reality of “mountain rats”—illegal logging groups who sneak in at night to fell rare and precious trees. Such destruction not only erases centuries-old giants but also weakens the mountains’ ability to retain soil and water, pushing fragile ecosystems to the brink.

Often working in silence, away from cameras, these guardians risk their safety and rely solely on conviction to defend the forest. What they protect is more than trees—they safeguard the future bond between us and the land.

🌲 Behind these stories, we cannot help but ask:

When faced with environmental and human pressures, when our forests are scarred and weakened—what actions are we willing to take?

Through this film screening and talk, we hope audiences come to see that nature is not something to be “managed,” but a living web of life to be respected and protected together.

May our vision of sustainability move beyond ideas, becoming shared empathy and collective action. 🌱
